Radon Gas Measurement & Mitigation

radon gas british columbiaRADON is a naturally occuring chemically inert gas that is produced from the radioactive decay of Uranium in the soil.  Health Canada stated in 2011 that RADON is the second leading cause of lung cancer in Canada after smoking.  There is no regulation in Canada that governs what is deemed to be an acceptable radon level in a home. It is the choice of each homeowner to determine what level of radon exposure they are willing to accept.  19% of homes in the East Kooteney Health Services District showed elevated (>200 becquerels/M3) levels of RADON in a 2012 survey by Health Canada.  The same survey showed that 29% of homes in the West Kooteneys were above what The Canadian Radon Guidelines deems is a "safe" level.
